Haze all in my eyes, things just don't look the same

ごめんね Jimi, but that was the first thing that came to my mind…

The weather is usually such a boring topic to talk about in Singapore but this time I just have to gripe. Tiredness + smog really messes up my eyes which are naturally sensitive to dryness. Watching the 2nd episode of Smallville S6 makes me wish Clark was around to temper the smog.

And I dreamed I saw the bombers...

And I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky
And they were turning into butterflies
Above our nation”
Stardust, Joni Mitchell

What a wonderful evening, watching an amazing display of fireworks light up the night sky as we sat close to the edge of the waters along Marina Bay! Never mind the slightly muddy field that we had to tread through, nor the 1 hour travel home in what would have been a 1/2 hour journey under normal traffic conditions. It was certainly worth the price to pay for those glorious ten minutes.

And a comforting piece of news to complement the day. ^___^

PCs suck...

I hate PCs. They mess up when you need it most (like when you’re tired but need to send out something and then go to bed) and by the time you’ve fixed them you’ve been robbed of 2 hours meant for relaxation…grrrrrrrrrrr… >_<

Zegapain Episode 11

消されるなこの想い
 忘れる我が痛み

I just finished watching Zegapain episode 11 and bawled my eyes out. T__T

It’s the people relationships in this anime that drive home a point that The Matrix tried but failed to accomplish in its third installment simply because it was overambitious:

人は島ではない
 一人では生きてはいけない

The Matrix 2 involved too much pseudo-philosophy and religious threads, which was great fun in itself, but made it difficult for the Matrix 3 to weave into a proper story. I guess TV animes have the luxury of time to tell a story, and if carefully contructed can become sheer brillance.

Anyway it’s too early to tell how the anime will end. I hope it can keep up to its current momentum and not sink like some anime (read: Ev*ng*l**n) towards the end.

MondoPhoto.net

I chanced upon this site through a most unflattering manner: tomorrow.sg > sgforums. Me and 傑儀 had a good laugh over some of the comments on Singapore: some are totally off (e.g. death penalty for pornography… I’m just assuming he was kidding), but some ring all too true (“Surrounded by artificially ‘ordered’ parks, its tall housing projects are populated by more than 80% of the population - whose smiling native charms often belie underlying tensions of the way the island is progressing after 30 years of development.”).

However, what really drew me to the site is the multitude of photos of Tokyo 東京. I love Tokyo; it’s the most facinating city I’ve been to and my biggest regret is not having taken enough pictures in my recent visit there. The site photo-chronicles most of the places I visited (and didn’t). There are some really nice photos in there. One should check it out if one has the chance (both the site as well as the actual city).

Favourite Stairway to Heaven's

It’s been a very miserable 2 days for me: down with a nasty cough which resulted in a horrible tension headache; was feverish too. Today’s Saturday but I’m stuck at home nursing my throat and my irritated nose isn’t making matters easier :-(

Anyway since I’m bored out of my mind I decide to rip and share the 2 Led Zeppelin concert Stairway’s that I blogged about in the Earls Court post. In spite of my being medicated I found a way to increase my site’s php upload limit to something more than 8Mb which means that I can now put stereo versions of my mp3s (the Earls Court is in mono because at 128kbps, that would have meant a file of at least 10Mb; I will reupload the file in the near future — subject to my malfunctioning memory)

War of the Giant Pelicans

Watched Spielberg’s War of the Worlds with Ling today and though I liked it a lot, it was, film-wise, one traumatic experience for me. Forget the little bits of exposition they had to furnish concerning Tom Cruise’s Ray Ferrier’s household mismanagement problems. Forget the slightly cheesy-by-modern-day-standards explanation on how the alien lifeforms landed on (or rather into) Earth. If one were expecting an alien-invasion movie similar to, say, Independence Day, one might be sorely disappointed, because there were no Earthian heroes with the talents or the technology to defeat the mighty giant armoured machines. The film was instead one grand statement about the fragility of Man and his ugly nature when the desperation to survive supersedes morality.

This is one film that was based on a late-1800s novel by H.G. Wells, with a famous radio series in the 1930s by Orson Welles that sent people who believed the invasion real into panic. It would have been a horror tale more for the imagination than a visual exercise if not for the advances of cinematic technology.
