Adam Lambert and Kris Allen are like Led Zeppelin meets Vanilla Fudge

Feeling a little down. Not completely into the acceptance stage yet.

The second half of American Idol Results Show Finale was totally awesome, with the awesome Adam singing with KISS and Queen in two very brilliant performances. Yet the ending of the results how seemed so anticlimatic because the clear star of the show didn’t win and we had to suffer that gawd damn awful ‘coronation’ song for the third time.

I love Kris, and I’d be happy if he’d won in any other season… but THIS… is like Led Zeppelin being the opening act for Vanilla Fudge in 1968 and blowing the latter out of the water. :( On the positive note, Led Zeppelin went on to be so much bigger and I believe Adam will too.

That voice is just so versatile and magical! Congrats Adam for turning this fan who never before followed American Idol into a complusive addict for your singing! Goodbye American Idol, probably won’t be seeing you next year (unless Glambert makes an appearance, of course).

My level of obsession has hit unearthly levels

When I found out Adam Lambert had hit the bottom two this week I felt sick in my stomach. I hadn’t even watched the episode because I got my news through the grapevine.

I’ve never been an American Idol fan; never will be. This is the first season that I’ve been following dutifully and the only reason that got me into it was when I first heard his ethereal version of “Mad World” by accident when I happened to turn on the telly that day and thought to myself, oh my god this guy, he’s pushing the limits of what’s supposed to be a popularity singing show for the masses.

One week to go before home for the winter vacation!!

Just one more week left for Singapore. Having Singaporean food cravings already. Really sick of eating the stuff at Norton Street and Newtown :-( I would much rather eat my own cooking if not for the fact that the kitchen is 2 floors below :P

Just finished my accounting paper for the day, was manageable but didn’t go fantastically because of the time constraints. I hope I can get at least a distinction (let’s not go to HD). Next week is the killer M&A and financial modelling exams. I’m not too worried about the latter though cos I’ve already passed the exam from the mid term and project results.^^ Was really happy about the project grades for modelling (38/40!!). That was the hardest project I’ve had to handle so far in Sydney Uni and the effort paid off. While I hated the project when I was doing it, I’m glad for doing it at the same time too because of the exposure it has given me to Monte Carlo simulation, exotic options, portfolio optimisation, company valuation etc. In regular finance class we just learn two asset portfolio optimisation which uses simplified mathematical formulas. In spreadsheet modelling I actually get to see how multi asset portfolios are obtained through inverse matrix operations. Really cool. The Benninga textbook has really been useful and when I finally graduate I’ll try to make the effort to learn more of the stuff in detail.

R.I.P. Arthur C. Clarke

One of my favourite authors of all time, Arthur C. Clarke, passed away yesterday at the age of 90.

Besides being an extraordinary writer of science fiction novels, he also conceptualised the invention of modern geosynchronous communication satellites. Some of his books that had the greatest impact on me were “The Fountains of Paradise” and “Childhood’s End”. They were mind-blowing sources of inspiration to me during my undergraduate days. The world feels somewhat a lonelier place without him. He will be sorely missed.

Eye Operation

Just a few more hours before my scheduled eyelid (ptosis) operation to hopefully reduce the asymmetry of my two eyes due to hyperthyroid 4 years ago (has it been that long?) Minor operation, no doubt, but still scary. It’s going to be local anaesthetic, which means I’m going to be wide awake the whole 1-2 hours; the reason for this is that I will be required to look up and down to ensure a good correction. Hope things work out ok, maybe I’ll post some before and after photos here… Wish me luck!
