久しぶりの日本語ブログ

久しぶりに日本語でブログを書くのは確かに微妙です。
日本語能力は段々下手になってしまう気がします。（いや、事実です。）本当に残念。
 （日本語の上手なあなた方が私を許してくれますか？）

先月、時間がいっぱいあるのはわかっていても、勉強せず、うちにごろごろして、怠けた生活を送ってしまいました。
それでも、楽しかった。
貧乏でも、よかった。
 このまま楽な生活が続けられるといいなと思っていました。

でも、現実は厳しいです。
今の世界では、
仕事がないと金がない。
金がないと人は困る。
 気の毒なことに、仕事があると自由はなくなる。

金は自由の天敵です。

先週、やっと新しい仕事を見つけた。
今週の月曜にスタートして、息が付けないくらい忙しい毎日。
この仕事が好きじゃないわけじゃない。
 ていうか、楽しい部分はあることは否定できない。

でもペースはちょっと速すぎるとお思う。もう少しゆっくりできるといいな。

文句はこれまでです。

仕事を受けるのは自分の選択ので、自分の人生に責任を持って生きるべきです。

人生は長い。これを考えるとちょっと怖い…

2007年6月の決意

2ヶ月まえ日本語クラスをやめてからずっと勉強を怠けてしまった。とても残念なことだった。

そんな何もしない態度を続けてはいけないと思って、三日前、私は決心した。少なくとも毎週1時間や2時間の真剣な自習をした方が良いかも。最近日本語で書いてある本を読んだ数が増えてきたが、漢字に依頼しすぎたせいか、動詞や音の読み方などは全く覚えようともしなかった。こんな真似をするのは本当にヤバイな。

今年JLPT１を受けるつもりはないが、1年前日本で買ったJLPT１の完全マスター漢字本は学習にとっていい材料だと思って、二日前の水曜日は通勤時間を利用して少し動詞の勉強をした。進歩は大したことじゃないが、以前の中途半端な学び方よりずっとましでしょ。＾＾；

Japanese Idioms

I’ve been hearing this phrase, 蛇の道は蛇, several times so I decided to work my lazy ass and find out what it actually means. In the end, I got led to this pretty neat Japanese idiom website: ことわざの参考書. Will slowly work my way through the site. Japanese idioms are really cool. There were a couple of nice ones used in 彩雲国物語アニメ, which I’ve unfortunately cleanly forgotten. Time to work my brain!

語学の紹介

先日スラッシュドットに面白い記事が書かれてある。その記事によると、アメリカの有名な大学MITが色んな教材を公開してくれた。そのプロジェクトはMITOpenCourseWareと呼ぶ。

これはいいなと思って、MITウェブサイトのリンクをクリックして、日本語についての教材を参照して見た。アドバンス日本語の資料を読めば、読むほど面白くなりそうな気がする。読み物ばかりではなく、mp3や、ビデオクリップも収集している。もっと大切なのは、全部無料で、誰でもその教材を参照できる。本当に新鮮な感じ！日本語が上手になるには、努力や、興味が必要となる。もっと読むこと、もっとアニメ、ドラマを見ること。勉強の機会を見つけ、勉強し、いつか上手になるはずだ。

Code Switching

I’ve just spent the last half an hour watching three Kaneshiro Takeshi 金城武 interviews (lol), having read about him in the New Paper today (the shame!). The first was an interview in Cantonese, the second an CNN interview (video divided into 3 parts) conducted in English and finally one in Japanese. I’ve got to say this guy’s mastered the art of switching between languages. In the Cantonese interview, there are a couple of situations when he, unable to express in Cantonese, switches to Mandarin without missing a beat. I’m insanely jealous. If that happened to me, stutter would first come, followed by complete silence. It’s as if my brain were a receiver that’s been jammed by radio interference. Of course it’s not like I don’t understand at all when I’m spoken to in a language that out of my comfort zone (meaning: anything other than English). It’s just that comprehension ability does not necessarily mean the ability to express. Singaporeans in general seem to be really good at code-switching; I’m inapt, there’s no doubt about it.

Japanese WOTD: 鍵っ子

Every week I learn something new from my Japanese class. Now I have the bad habit of never copying notes (rationale: I never look at them afterwards anyway) in class and tend to rely on my *ahem* awesome short-term memory to remember new things. Unfortunately, my long-term memory is sorely lacking…

The best part about blogs such as this is that they’re indexable and searchable! So why not regular posts on new Japanese learnings? (Briliant, Terra, brilliant) ^_^

Today’s 日本語語彙 is: 鍵っ子（かぎっこ）
It looks like it’s a direct translation from the English term latch-key child; in Chinese it’s 挂钥匙儿童 (suǒ yào shi ér tóng).

PPC Win2003SE Settings for Japanese (Revised)

日本化しよう！

Revised registry code (click here to see the outdated code)for the English OS version of PPC Win2003SE using the Japanese version of wince.nls. This has been tested with ComPOBox for Japanese input and so far works perfecty fine. Time to try a commercial Japanese input software like ATOK I guess.

Things you need…

  1. ComPOBox from here for the Kokugo Jiten.
  2. Nihon Win2003SE wince.nls from here.
  3. Any version of MSGothic (you can even take from WinXP or whatever)
  4. The registry code below…

Japanese localisation on an English OS

Temporary solution (side effects not tested for) until I can find a new copy of wince.nls from Japan: replace wince.nls with Win2003’s (1st edition) wince.nls. Ensure that MS Gothic font is in the \Windows folder and not the \Windows\Fonts folder.
This is a cleaned up version of this site’s code.
