Astor Piazzolla

The lack of posts in the last one month or so is a reflection of how occupied I’ve been in with other happenings in my life: project meetings, watching Smallville episodes and listening to my collection of CDs.

I’ve been so in love with Astor Piazzolla’s music of late. I’ve listened to Tango Zero Hour countless times, and just last week I got the Happy Together OST and La Camorra in the mail. On replay mode is Milonga for 3 [Tango Apasionado] from the HT OST because the musical theme 3 minutes into the song is just so beautiful. The other stuff I’ve been listening to is the Kenshin Seisou Hen OST and the Ashes of Time OST (thanks again Wong Kar Wai). As you can probably tell, Argentine and Asian instrumental music are two of my greatest loves of the moment. In about less than two weeks time, the first of my 2 term essays are due. I’ve only barely started on it, so I think I better get my adrenaline going. Since this is an art history essay on I hope the music will help to inspire

Was lost but now is found

This is fantastic. After a painful search, I finally found my 2 lost CDs: Jeff Beck’s Blow by Blow and The Rolling Stones Gimme Shelter CD. The irony was they were in the most obvious of places, which I should have looked at before inspecting each and every CD case in my collection.

Cyberpunk

Borrowed a copy of William Gibson’s “Neuromancer” from the National Library. I’m currently at the end of chapter one of the book (haha). It’s been pretty good so far but I’m not quite so sure if it’s as revolutionary as it’s been hailed to be: the cyberpunk novel pioneer. I believe Alfred Bester achieved this years earlier in his 1956 novel “The Stars, My Destination” before cyberpunk was known as cyberpunk. What’s refreshing to me however, is the thrill of discovering the origins of the now common term “cyberspace”, and finding out what really was the Matrix.

As for Alfred Bester, who is in my list of top ten favourite authors, his book “The Demolished Man” reminds me so much of the film I’ve been wanting to watch for a long time: Steven Spielberg’s “Minority Report” based on a Philip K. Dick short story (another one of my fav authors). They both speculate on how murder can be stopped through the use of psychic abilities.

Found: Xenosaga Lyrics

This is precisely what I’ve been looking for since since the Official Soundtrack to Xenosaga was released: The lyrics to the Latin songs in Xenosaga which are Ormus, The Resurrection and The Miracle. I found them off the Xenosaga page in Gamefaqs.com, but the can also be found at this website (along with a host of other lyrics) in this website called The Opera House. There’s an English translation for the non-English lyrics in both sites. Anyway, I couldn’t resist from putting up the latin lyrics to The Miracle (my favourite of the three) in this blog. I’m trying to learning the parts but it would be nice if there was a real choir to sing it along with.

Jimmy Page Portrait

Trying a different kind of Photoshop art. Sketched this on paper, scanned it, and then traced the outline. Filled the colour, added the words and there ya go.
